lets hit them hard. they saw nothing coming
Whoa.. I said softly to the palomino as I was legged up into the saddle. The colt wasn't on the track a lot this season, just wasn't lately. He was one special colt and was just great on the colt. He is a one of a kind type of horse. I smiled a thank you to Matt and urged the colt forward. Zazzy pinned his ears back and danced backwards. Easy boy. Come on.. I said softly and urged him forward again. He was just being skittish today or something. He tossed his head in annoyance and trotted forward. Easy I said sharply. I sure wished I had a whip to help keep him in line but he was whip shy and we didn't want to deal with that problem. The gold colt beneath me broke stride into a gallop. He was rearing to go, but I wasn't ready for him to do. I needed to be sure he was warmed up and ready. We didn't want him to pull a muscle now. I pulled the reins back, slowing him to a trot. Slow do buster.... I muttered. Once he slowed down a bit, I got him to do a few figure eights, and some other things before I urged him forward towards the gates. One of the stables hands loaded us in and Matt was in the other gate with Mirabella. We planed on doing a match race. Matt was to keep Bella in the lead, and allow Zazzy to run up in the lead near the end and allow him to win. Just to help with his confidence. We both nodded our head to tell the stable hand we were ready. Moments later the gates flew open and both horses jumped out, Zazzy a split second after Mirabella. Zazzy ran right to the rail, running behind Mirabella. The grey filly tried to pull ahead, but Zazzy stayed right on her tail. The colt moved to the side, away from the rail and said to stalk his way around the grey filly. I allowed him to do what he wanted, to see what he had in him. He now was nose and nose with the filly, edging his way forward. Soon he was a neck, and then a full horse away from her. By the time was passed the wire we were 2 furlongs ahead. I easy my colt down to a trot, and then a canter. I smiled as I rubbed my colts neck, glancing a Matt. You got one heck of a colt on your hands he yelled to me and my smile grew wider. One special colt at that. Zazzy pranced off the track, not even a sweat broke out on him. I just couldn't wait. I knew he would hurt him not being on the track most of the year, but he could maybe wow everyone in the crowd, making a comeback. I led my yellow colt off towards the stables.
